We've been working on version 2.5 since last summer, and it's now live for all Professional and Enterprise accounts. This is our largest release to date — here's what's new and why it matters for your training program.

SCORM 2004 Support (3rd and 4th Edition)

DrillPortal has supported SCORM 1.2 since launch. Version 2.5 adds full SCORM 2004 support, including 3rd and 4th edition packages. This means you can now import content from Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, iSpring, and other authoring tools that publish to the 2004 standard.

The big difference between SCORM 1.2 and 2004 is sequencing and navigation. SCORM 2004 lets the content package define its own navigation rules — prerequisites between modules, branching based on quiz performance, and more granular completion criteria. DrillPortal's player handles all of this natively.

If you've been holding off on upgrading your SCORM packages because your LMS didn't support 2004, that blocker is gone.

Branching Scenarios

The quiz engine now supports branching logic. Instead of a linear sequence of questions, you can build assessments where the next question depends on the previous answer. This opens the door to scenario-based assessments that feel more like real-world decision-making than a multiple-choice test.

A few examples of how customers are using this:

You build branching scenarios in the same quiz editor you already know — just connect questions with conditional paths instead of a flat list.

Rebuilt Quiz Engine

Beyond branching, we rebuilt the quiz engine from the ground up. The changes:

Getting Started

Version 2.5 is already live — no action needed on your end. All existing courses, quizzes, and SCORM 1.2 packages continue to work exactly as before. The new features are available in your admin panel under the Course Builder and Quiz sections.

If you'd like a walkthrough of the new features with your team, reach out to your account manager or request a demo session.
